Overview of Biotherapy Authorizations

Users must be authorized to use the Biotherapy Applications. The Authorizations tool allows application owners to grant access to users as needed. Authorizations are designated for each institution that uses the Biotherapy Applications.

The Authorizations tool allows the user to carry out all of the following tasks:

Users must have a valid user name and password.

When an MD is authorized, the user is automatically added to the Patient Physician List, which populates the recipient MD options for writing new biotherapy orders.

Specialties—On November 6, 2018, the Biotherapy applications were enhanced to allow ordering for non-oncology treatment at BWH and MGH. When authorizing a new provider, the user granting access is prompted to select Oncology or Non-oncology. In addition, for non-oncology, a specialty selection is required. Non-oncology specialty options include a defined list, or Other with a free-text entry.

Biotherapy application access—Biotherapy is available to authorized users via the start menu Applications folder and Citrix, and requires login with a user name and password. In addition, as of April 17, 2018, providers can access BOE as an activity in the Digital Health eCare (Epic) application. Biotherapy is an option in the Epic menu, under MGB Applications, for BWHC, DFCI, and MGH. After launching, Biotherapy is listed in the Recent menu as well. The user name and password for Epic login is used to access BOE via Epic, so no additional login is needed. The options to choose a specialty (oncology or non-oncology), biotherapy application (Authorizations, BOE, BPAA, BOE Medical Records, and Tools), and site (BWH, DFCI, MGH) are available to users with the applicable authorizations. Patient context is not maintained between Epic and BOE; a patient must be selected in BOE when needed.

Reporting a Problem—As of September 18, 2020, an enhancement to the suite of Biotherapy applications allows users to create and send an incident ticket to ServiceNow directly from the application. A few clicks capture all of your contact information, as well as data and a screen shot for the process in progress. All you need to do is indicate how you would prefer to be contacted, and include any additional information you think is relevant. See Sending a ServiceNow Ticket for instructions.
